Amy Johnston, IBCLC

founder of Community Lactation and Parenting

As the mother to two young sons who are my world, I am especially sensitive to the concerns of new parents.  With the help of an amazing IBCLC, I was able to overcome the nursing difficulties my first son and I were facing and fall in love with breastfeeding! I knew very early in our nursing relationship that I had been called to work with young families--not only to help them breastfeed successfully for the nutritional and immunological benefits to their infants, but also to help them establish a bond that promotes intuitive, responsive parenting.

When Quinn, my first baby, was just a few months old, I left my job as a public high school teacher and began working in corporate lactation (2011). The following year, I obtained accreditation as a La Leche League Leader.  In 2014, I gave birth to my second son, Holden--soon after earning a Parent Educator credential from Attachment Parenting International. FINALLY in 2017, I achieved my dream of becoming an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and began teaching breastfeeding classes and facilitating outpatient breastfeeding support groups for a local hospital.  It is my mission to ensure that every family in Nassau County has access to affordable, quality, evidence-based lactation care.
